In regards to your question about the 80/20 mix, my rationale is that the cost of paid search is so significant that it benefits mature company with the resources to build an strong content strategy to gain a foothold in organic search is best served. Keep in mind that is an ideal, but rarely do we see that in real life. Many of our clients are 50/50 or 60/40 at best.

Couldn’t agree more with your first paragraph. As we specialize in small businesses early in their digital “lives”, we see this all the time.

Quick question, on what do you base your recommendation of an 80/20 split between organic and paid search for mature businesses? Seems to me this is based on the success one is having with SEO to drive improvement in organic search ranking.
