IMAA 2017 Survey Results

IMAA 2017 Survey Results title pageAs a member of the Interactive Marketing Association Alliance (IMAA), SEMpdx participated in a national survey last year, and the results are now available.

In 2016, IMAA fielded an important piece of industry research on the digital industry and the relationships between agencies, brand marketers, and technology/media solutions providers. The research was conducted in partnership with more than 15 other local and regional professional marketing associations. The survey was designed to help the industry understand the strengths and opportunities in forging stronger collaborative relationships that help us grow our brands and careers.

The survey had four key objectives:

  1. Provide relevant insight into key elements of the digital marketing industry
  2. Assess the state of relationships between leading agencies, brand marketers and media/technology solutions providers
  3. Understand how media and technology priorities are changing
  4. Benchmark the value, strengths and opportunity areas of local interactive marketing associations and other local professional marketing associations that participate in the study

The result is a national overview with significant participation by brands, agencies and technology/media providers/sellers that gives the world a glimpse into how these three groups REALLY view one another. Thank you to those who took the time to complete the survey. Take a moment and review the IMAA 2017 survey results.

In honor of SEMpdx’s 11 consecutively held conference, I’ve come up with the top 11 reasons why you should attend Engage on March 9 in Portland, Oregon.

  1. SEMpdx's Engage Conference – Portland, OregonAfter 10 successful years as SearchFest, the conference is now called Engage. What is this reboot all about? You should attend and find out! And later you can say “I was at the very first Engage Conference”.
  2. Amazing speakers – All 30+ of them. While most conferences require speakers submit ideas to be considered. Engage organizers invite the marketing professionals they think will bring fresh and compelling points of view. Look forward to speakers who are passionate about what the do, are eager to learn more, and enjoy sharing what they know.
  3. Videos of all speaker sessions are included with your ticket. Four to six weeks after the conference, you’ll receive access to all of the videos – over 1,000 minutes of Engage goodness. This allows you to see concurrent sessions you missed, or want to see again.
  4. bacon at Engage ConferenceA full breakfast buffet to get the day started right, including bacon, –because it’s delicious and high in protein, …but mostly that delicious part.
  5. New this year – Stumptown Coffee with breakfast, thanks to sponsor Tidings Company.
  6. Sponsors. Yes, sponsors. They will help make Engage awesome by helping us bring extras to the conference that make for an improved experience, as well as help to hold down registration prices. (Interested in becoming a sponsor?, then check out Engage’s sponsorship opportunities.)
  7. Networking with like-minded marketing professional attendees and speakers. Sometimes the most important things you can learn are from discussing what you’ve heard in presentations with others and finding out how others tackle the same problems you face in your job.
  8. Happy Hour – Immediately following the closing kick-ass keynote from Cindy Krum, imbibe in some beer or wine with snacks and networking – a great way to bookend the day.
  9. After Party – Let the awesomeness of the day continue. Immediately following Happy Hour is the After Party, with drinks, food, photo booth, fun activities, and of course, more networking.
  10. 10% of SEMpdx’s annual proceeds is donated to our Charity of Choice, currently Reading Results. As a non-profit, SEMpdx believes in giving back to our community. We will be matching up to $5,000 in donations made by our members to Reading Results.
  11. It’s in Portland. If you’re from here, you already get it. If you’re traveling from afar, you’ll enjoy the beautiful & historic Sentinel hotel as the backdrop of the Engage conference. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to eat amazing food, meet great people, and enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Bonus: Here’s a slideshow of photos from last year’s conference to further entice you to join us in Portland, March 9 for the Engage Conference.

As board members leave, it creates an excellent opportunity for SEMpdx members to join the board, bring new ideas, and help craft the future on our organization.

We HAD 3 openings on the SEMpdx Board of Directors:

  • The Sponsorships Director oversees obtaining new and recurring paid sponsors of SEMpdx’s newsletter, monthly events, networking events, and our Engage Conference (formerly called SearchFest).
  • The Marketing Director coordinates paid advertising, email marketing, and social media efforts to promote monthly educational events, networking events, and the Engage Conference.

SEMpdx-logoBack in 2011, the SEMpdx Board of Directors voted to hold itself to a newly created Board Code of Ethics. This year we have decided that SEMpdx members should all share the same code of ethics. After allowing for a month of member feedback, we are now expanding the code of ethics to the entire organization. It is extremely similar to the Code of Ethics that we, as a board, have held ourselves to over the last 4+ years. The Board Code of Ethics and the new Member Code of Ethics are largely the same, but now include the addition of the adherence to Google’s Webmaster Quality Guidelines.

The SEMpdx Member Code of Ethics will be effective as of January 1, 2016. All SEMpdx members, including the Board of Directors and Advisory Board, will be subject to conform with the Member Code of Ethics beginning that date. All new and existing SEMpdx members will be automatically opted-in to the Member Code of Ethics beginning Jan. 1, 2016. Any current member who disagrees with the Member Code of Ethics can choose to no longer be a member of SEMpdx and receive a prorated refund of their membership dues based on a dated, written request.

It’s our hope to strengthen and safeguard the reputation of our organization and our industry by holding ourselves and members to a reasonable standard of ethics that helps to protect those who pay for digital marketing services, those who deliver such services to clients, and in-house marketers and the companies they serve.

In order for the Member Code of Ethics have significant meaning, we’ve decided that enforcement must be a part of its implementation. Beginning January 1, 2016, if someone believes that an SEMpdx member has violated our code of ethics, they can submit a complaint by using the Code of Ethics Violation Complaint form. The Ethics Committee, as appointed by the SEMpdx Board of Directors, will investigate any claims. Only claims relevant to the items explicitly included in the SEMpdx Member Code of Ethics will qualify to be reviewed. We will also only investigate claims against current SEMpdx Members.

If the Committee finds there has been a violation, it will ask the Member to stop and/or correct any such action. If corrective action is taken by the Member to the Committee’s satisfaction, the violation will be considered resolved. If the Committee determines that the violating Member does not in good faith seek to remedy the problem to the Committee’s satisfaction, the Committee may choose to terminate the membership.
